EligibilityChildren must be three years of age by Sept 1 of the school year to enter the program. On a case-by-case basis, exceptions can be made for younger children who turn three years old in January or February during the school year. Please contact Westlock Preschool Society president if your child does not turn three until January or February, and you would like to register him/her in our program.
Enrolled children must be three years of age when they enter the classroom unattended. If your child is not yet three years old, you have the following options:

Curriculum
We approach the preschool concept from a developmental approach, with an emphasis on the following:
1. All children learn and develop in stages - our educators meet each child at whatever stage they are in and offer experiences that will challenge them to reach the next stage.
2. Children learn by doing - the process is far more important than the product.
Children may learn through hands-on art, music, dramatic play, language development, science exploration, or math activities that will stretch each child to their next level of development.
Westlock Preschool Society has incorporated Flight – Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework into our daily practice. Educators will focus on what the child experiences in the world around them and what is relevant to them. It will include activities that develop self-esteem, confidence, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. The curriculum will be responsive to the child's interests and needs.
The daily schedule and activities will create a balance between active and quiet times; large and small group, and individual activities; indoor and outdoor playtimes; as well as child-directed and teacher-directed activities.
